Truth be told this simply brilliant Henley wedding should have hit the blog ages back. I don’t really have any excuse, sometimes I’m just a slow coach! No matter. It is here today and I’m really pleased to be finally sharing it. Fenella & Jamie’s day was downright sumptuous. A vast tent bedecked with the most incredible flowers and a jaw-dropping curtain flower wall, two hundred guests, beautiful dresses, scrumptious cuisine and the amazing Atlantic Soul Orchestra – the list goes on. This was a veritable MegaWed.
I nearly always shoot weddings alone, but the sheer scale of this cracking day warranted something out of the ordinary – a second photographer for the morning. I had the great pleasure of working alongside Richard Harris. He is a gent and a photographic craftsman and I hugely admire his eye for the moment. Rich covered Jamie and the ushers in Streatley-on-Thames while I looked after Fenella and the Bridesmaids (an excellent band name non?!) in Henley. Although not my first Henley wedding, it was my first for a little while. There’s something about Henley that seems to guarantee top-drawer celebrations. Unsurprisingly, I’m always excited to shoot there!
Fenella’s parents’ house played host to the reception, and it was there that the day started. I particularly love the portraits of Fenella before she left for the ceremony. Time was super tight at this stage, but I’m so glad that we made it happen. I truly love the outcome.
I caught up with Richard at St Mary’s in Streatley before the ceremony. The church was brimful and the sense of drama and occasion palpable. Fenella and her Dad rocked up in a Aston Martin DB5 and, all of a sudden, it was show time. I love the moments during and around the signing of the register. Wedge loads of joyful people together in a tiny church vestry and great photos often emerge.
Once we got back to Henley, it was officially party time. We snuck in a few groups and portraits but the rest of the day was otherwise strictly documentary. Great speeches, that truly resplendent tent, a dancefloor vibe the envy of any first-rate club and an outrageously good time. I’m not going to add too much more. I think the pictures tell this story far better than any words.
My thanks to Fenella & Jamie for being great fun and for organising another stupendous Henley wedding. Thanks also to Richard Harris for being a supremely talented and entirely dependable second shooter and Sam and his team at 81 Events for keeping me fed and watered. Right, time for some favourites.
