The Secret Walled Garden: Wasing Park Wedding – Katie & Nick

Katie & Nick’s Wasing Park Wedding is unquestionably one of my all time favourites. It had such an incredible blend of beauty, charm and style and featured some truly excellent people. A Wasing Park Wedding is always fun. It’s a simply stunning venue with a huge variety of photographic opportunities. However this was my first time shooting in The Secret Walled Garden at Wasing Park and I think it’s my new favourite spot there. Despite organising much of the wedding from Dubai, Katie & Nick did an absolutely astounding job.

Katie got ready in the cottage alongside the gardens with her bridesmaids and flower girl. The weather was stunning and really complimented a day that was envisaged from the outset as outdoors and summery. While Katie & the girls were made-up, Nick and his groomsmen prepped the final bits and pieces for the wedding: table plan, finishing touches to the teepee and the all-important badminton net! On the other side of Wasing Park, Nick and the gents got ready before heading over to the Walled Garden to meet arriving guests. Katie’s finished look was incredible. Her dress, a stunning boho design by Watters was complemented by a perfect floral crown, panja bracelet and feet mehndi. She looked, as you will see, quite incredible.

The wedding ceremony itself happened outdoors, just beyond the borders of the Secret Walled Garden. The weather was sunny and very warm and the walk from the gate of the Walled Garden itself, across to the folly where the ceremony took place made for a breathtaking rustic aisle. One of the things that I loved most about Katie & Nick’s day was the joy and happiness evident on both of their faces. Bliss is a pretty cheesy word and far too often overused, but these guys probably warrant it! By the end of the day there must have been some sore cheeks from all the beaming smiles and hysterical laughter. When everyone is this expressive it makes wedding photojournalism very enjoyable and a lot easier!

Following the ceremony Katie & Nick made their way around the Secret Walled Garden before walking down the central pathway to be met by their guests and copious amounts of confetti. The reception was exactly the sort of relaxed garden party Katie had in mind and the weather couldn’t have been more agreeable. Think beers in bathtubs, garden games and nothing too formal. Fantastic. The wedding breakfast and evening party took place in a teepee that had been pitched on one of the garden’s central lawns. It looked incredible in the setting and was dressed beautifully.

I’m particularly pleased with the creative session portraits of Katie & Nick that we captured together. Katie is a complete contradiction. She’s incredibly stylish and beautiful but also reassuringly silly and down to earth. There’s no ‘too cool for school’ vibe here and it showed in the portraits. Natural and hilarious through and through, I feel that the portraits capture a little of what makes Katie & Nick, well, Katie & Nick.

The evening was a riot. A dance floor bursting at the seams, a devil-may-care attitude from one and all and a plastic toy helmet with a GoPro mounted on it to capture the action close up! I also had a really great chat with Nick’s Brother-in-Law – truly one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met at a wedding. All in all this was a very special day; I’m honestly struggling to find the words to do it justice. Hopefully the photographs will help! It was also the last wedding I shot before my own wedding day so that added something particular and indefinable to the experience. In short Katie & Nick’s Wasing Park Wedding was an absolute pleasure. Their day will live long in the memory. Thanks so much for having me guys!
